Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

Resident Evil 4

by Capcom
Platform:   Nintendo Wii
ESRB Rating:  Mature
Release: Jun 19, 2007

'Resident Evil 4 was' when in 2005 did for the GameCube on the market, a milestone in terms of console graphics and gameplay: Needless to say more clearly how much is staving off the' Resident Evil' series with this part of the original game concept has. Here I would rather deal with the "innovations" of the Wii edition, which for many are actually just the reason to buy.
In the run-up was announced by
Capcom great that the Wii edition, the "definitive version was" the game: A promise was graphic at GC level (with a few changes here and there, see Gamespot interview), a new, adapted to the Wii Remote control regimen, and the extras that were previously only available on PS2 and PC.

Control

Here, the Wii edition may well make very clear the most: Those who play with the Wii Remote, the first few minutes be somewhat confused, but soon the new controller goes into the blood: The laser pointer of the previous versions has been replaced by a crosshair that is now permanently displayed on the screen in a gray color and the position indicates the Wii Remote. Leon goes into the target mode with one of his arms about, the crosshair turns green when you aim at something that can be fired, it will appear in red. Aiming weapons to friends with Suchfernrohr (eg rocket launcher or sniper rifle) will remain with the analog stick. Attacking with a knife can be either by swinging the Wii Remote, where the opponent is automatically targeted, and as usual performed by pressing a button. Also, the Quick-time events have been changed so that one now either press buttons or shake the Wii Remote must be what makes the whole seem a bit intoxicating. Exactly how the control is really, in a review course can be difficult to explain but only say: The game is somewhat easier by the newly acquired target accuracy than before. Good to have to keep it Capcom, you can play the Wii edition with the GameCube or Classic controller under the old control scheme, yes, even the context of buttons that appear on the screen to display properly!

Graphics

The Wii edition has, like the PS2 version on a true widescreen mode and progressive scan. In the run was great announced that it will bring the Wii edition with the original GameCube graphics, and some improvements, but not the worse PS2 and PC versions on the market. For the content that was already present in the GameCube version, which is also true, but not for the extras. So Leon and Ashley take on new costumes were one to one from the PS2 version, the lower number of polygons becomes apparent very quickly. Before each cut scene is noticeably the standard costume loaded and then used. A great pity, many would certainly like to see in Mafia Leon knife fight with Krauser.
At Adas longer Bonus Mission 'Separate Ways' has also promised to bring them into the GC-D graphics, but this is only half the story in retrospect. Delivered is a strange mix of GC and PS2 graphics, so we sometimes from one room with high-resolution GC textures blurred into another area with 8-bit textures stumble. The Lightning effects leave something there, sometimes very desirable. Furthermore, the cutscenes are in 'separate ways' unequal (the main game which is real-time sequences used) can still be recorded and streamed videos, the lower resolution makes itself felt. Especially here would have Capcom should make more effort: Dear push the release date back a bit and then adjust completely to GameCube graphics, instead of throwing an incomplete version on the market. How to Master Miyamoto has said before: "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."

Sound

Here there is absolutely nothing to criticize, it uses the original sound effects on GC levels, not the worse of the PS2 version, so you can enjoy a crystal-clear output.

Tools

* Real Widescreen and Progressive Scan Mode
* Ada's Bonus Mission 'Separate Ways', which is about one fifth of the original game include, but are mostly used in areas known
* Two new costumes: Mafia Leon (with a slightly different Chicago Typewriter) and Ashley in a suit of armor that makes them invulnerable
* Amateur difficulty for inexperienced players
* Three control schemes: Wii remote, GameCube controller, Classic Controller
* Movie Browser to view the cutscenes (here are also the main game cutscenes recorded videos)
* A trailer for 'Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles'

Who the GameCube version of his own called, which is probably still best advised to purchase the Wii edition. Owner of the PS2 or PC version can safely ignore it, Capcom continues to throw money into the throat.
Those who have not yet had the benefit of 'Resident Evil 4', should get the Wii edition as quickly as it has just four but the best version of all.
